This circular walk around Cropredy takes you through a corner of Oxfordshire where history runs deep.
It's an easy route that follows the River Cherwell as it meanders past open countryside, with Cropredy Bridge marking the highlight of your journey. That bridge is more than just a crossing—in 1644 it was the site of a major English Civil War battle where Royalist and Parliamentary forces fought it out. Walking across it now gives you a tangible connection to that turbulent period.
The route brings you through Cropredy village itself, where traditional stone buildings give the place real character. You'll find a couple of pubs there for a proper break, and the village has that comfortable, welcoming atmosphere you notice in communities that have been settled for centuries. There's also a strong cultural connection here—Cropredy hosts Fairport's Cropredy Convention, the long-running folk music festival that draws crowds each August. If you need anything else, Banbury is just a short drive away and has all the facilities of a proper market town. It's a straightforward half-day outing that combines a pleasant walk with genuine historical substance.

![A very special field at Cropredy (2) This otherwise-unremarkable pasture southeast of Cropredy holds a special place in the hearts of the 20,000 people who gather here every year for Fairport's Cropredy Convention music festival which is held every August. The festival occupies ten fields in the area - this meadow is the centre of the event and is used as the concert arena.
