This botanical collection is a real highlight when exploring the Cotswolds, offering a genuinely immersive experience among trees from all over the world.

Managed by Forestry England, it functions as a living museum dedicated to tree conservation and public enjoyment, established in the mid-1800s by Robert Holford.

You'll discover miles of paths threading through its two main areas, the Old Arboretum and Silk Wood, each with its own distinct character. It's an excellent spot for a leisurely wander, a more purposeful walk, or simply to settle on a peaceful bench. The Stihl Treetop Walkway is definitely worth experiencing—it offers a unique vantage point, allowing you to walk among the canopy and view the diverse collection from above.

The arboretum transforms dramatically with the seasons. Spring brings blossoms and fresh leaves, but autumn is when it really excels, with foliage shifting into spectacular displays of reds, oranges, and golds. The Persian ironwood trees are particularly striking during this time, admired for their brilliant autumn colours and distinctive flaking bark—they're a real draw for visitors keen to experience that vibrant seasonal transformation.

The location is accessible from towns like Tetbury and Malmesbury, making it a perfect day out to connect with nature and appreciate some truly magnificent specimens.
