Minety

This is a working village in north Wiltshire that sits comfortably between Malmesbury and Swindon, about six miles from either direction.

You'll find it gives you a genuine sense of rural England without feeling like a museum piece.

The village centers around a traditional parish church and a thriving community hub. Minety has managed to keep its primary school open, which is becoming increasingly rare in rural areas, and it's got a genuinely active rugby club that's a focal point for local life. If you're visiting on a match day, you'll get a real feel for how the village functions beyond tourism.

The name comes from water mint plants that historically grew wild in the local ditches and boggy areas, something worth remembering when you're walking around the lanes. The landscape around here is classic Wiltshire—rolling fields, hedgerows, and quiet country roads that are excellent for walking or cycling.

There aren't many formal visitor attractions here, and that's rather the appeal. It works well as a stopping point if you're exploring the wider area, or as a base for accessing nearby Malmesbury with its abbey, or further exploring the Cotswolds. You get the genuine article here rather than something staged for visitors.
