This walking route gives you a genuine feel for the countryside where the Cotswolds begin to transition into the Vale of White Horse.
Based around Wroughton, which sits just outside Swindon, the Millennium Trail is a well-marked pathway created around the year 2000, largely through local community efforts to open up the landscape for walkers of all abilities.
The walk takes you through open fields and quiet lanes with views stretching across the rolling Wiltshire landscape. It's the kind of route where you can enjoy fresh air and spot local wildlife without fighting crowds, making it ideal if you want something peaceful and accessible. The terrain is gentle, so it works well whether you're after a proper afternoon stroll or something easier.
You can start from Wroughton village itself, which has shops and facilities to sort you out before or after. If you're travelling from further afield, Swindon is only a short drive away and offers more accommodation options and transport connections. This trail serves as a good introduction to the walking possibilities in the area if you're new to exploring this part of England, and it's the kind of place that rewards you for getting out without demanding much in return.
