This area gives you access to the Cotswold Water Park, an extensive system of over 150 lakes that came into being through gravel extraction work across the 20th century.
What was once farmland transformed into a landscape of water and woodland, creating something quite different from the rest of the Cotswolds. The lakes themselves draw plenty of visitors throughout the year, particularly when the weather warms up, as they're ideal for paddleboarding, kayaking, and open water swimming. If you prefer a gentler pace, the surrounding paths work well for walking or cycling, and you'll likely spot various waterfowl and other wildlife as you go.
The whole area has a relaxed, accessible feel compared to the rolling hills and stone villages you'll find elsewhere in the region. Beyond the water, the paths and open spaces give you good opportunities to spend an afternoon without needing to be particularly active. When you need refreshments or a proper meal, South Cerney and Cerney Wick are conveniently close by. If you want a wider range of shops and restaurants, or you're interested in Roman archaeology, Cirencester lies just a short drive away and makes an easy addition to your visit.
