This Oxfordshire village sits just northeast of Chipping Norton and gives you a real sense of how life actually works in the Cotswolds away from the main tourist routes.
Hook Norton has grown organically into four distinct neighbourhoods—East End, Scotland End, Down End, and Southrop—each with its own character and local feel. With around 2,100 residents, the village has genuine community spirit without feeling oversized or impersonal. You'll find proper shops, pubs, and the sort of everyday village infrastructure that makes it feel lived-in rather than preserved. The surrounding countryside offers plenty of walking routes through the Cotswold Hills, and the village works well as either a base for exploring the wider area or a natural stopping point if you're taking a slower route through the region. There's something satisfying about a place where locals still know each other and visitors can experience the landscape without the crowds that gather elsewhere.
