Venture into the northern part of Oxfordshire and you'll find a delightful village deeply connected to its brewing heritage.
The star attraction here is undoubtedly the Hook Norton Brewery, an independent, family-owned tower brewery established in 1849. You can take a fascinating tour to see the traditional brewing process, admire the magnificent Shire horses still used for local deliveries, and, of course, sample some of their award-winning ales. It's a wonderful insight into a craft that has sustained the community for generations.
Beyond the brewery, the village itself showcases classic Cotswold architecture with its characteristic honey-coloured stone buildings. Take a gentle stroll through the lanes, perhaps visiting St. Peter's Church, and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere. The surrounding rolling countryside is perfect for walks, offering lovely views and a sense of calm. Historically, the area was also significant for ironstone mining, an industry that shaped parts of the landscape before its decline.
This welcoming community makes a great base for exploring. You'll find it close to other small settlements like Down End, East End, Scotland End, Swerford, Wigginton, and Ascott, each offering their own slice of rural English life. It’s a place that feels authentically Cotswold, away from busier spots, offering a genuine sense of place and history.
