Just a short drive from Gloucester, this Grade I listed manor house opens its gardens to visitors throughout the year, with particularly wonderful times to visit during spring and summer.

While the house itself remains a private family home, the extensive grounds are what draw most people here, and rightly so.

The gardens are genuinely impressive, combining formal areas with walled gardens and a peaceful lake that's been carefully restored over recent decades. You can spend a good few hours wandering through the spaces, which reflect centuries of thoughtful design and horticultural attention. The estate also features a chapel on the grounds that's worth seeking out, decorated with intricate frescoes and connected to Thomas Gambier Parry, a 19th-century artist and collector who played an important role in the property's history.

Access is straightforward, which makes this a practical choice whether you're spending time in Gloucester itself or planning a broader exploration of the area heading towards the Forest of Dean. The market town of Newent lies just a short drive away if you want to combine your visit with some local shopping or a cafe stop. Do check ahead for special open days, as the gardens aren't always accessible, and you'll find the plants are particularly stunning when they're in full growth during the warmer months.
