Foxley is a quiet village just over the border in Wiltshire, where you can experience the Cotswolds away from the crowds.
There's not much in the way of formal attractions here, and that's exactly the point. The real pleasure comes from wandering the lanes and taking in the traditional stone buildings that line them, along with St Thomas's Church, which sits at the heart of the village and has accumulated centuries of history. It's the sort of place that rewards a slow approach—there's time to notice architectural details, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and simply be present.
If you're after more facilities and things to do, Malmesbury is just a short drive away and makes an excellent companion to a visit here. The market town has its impressive Abbey, independent shops, cafes, and restaurants, so you could easily spend time exploring both. Many people find the combination works well: you can experience Malmesbury's activity and heritage during the day, then retreat to Foxley's calm for the evening or the next morning. It's a good reminder that sometimes the best part of exploring the Cotswolds isn't the famous stops, but the quieter spaces in between where you can actually breathe and take things in at your own pace.
