Far Oakridge is a small hamlet in the Forest of Dean area of Gloucestershire, just a few miles northwest of Stroud.
You won't find much here beyond stone cottages and farmland, but the place has a genuine connection to Arts and Crafts history worth exploring. In the early 20th century, artists William George Simmonds and his wife Eve lived here. William was a skilled draftsman and craftsman, while Eve was a musician and embroiderer. Together they ran a traveling puppet theatre that toured throughout Gloucestershire, bringing handmade performances to communities at a time when such entertainment was truly special for audiences.
There are no formal attractions in the hamlet itself, but it's worth visiting if you're interested in Arts and Crafts heritage or simply want to experience a quieter corner of the Cotswolds. You can walk the lanes and picture the creative life that existed here a century ago. The location is convenient to Stroud, which has good restaurants and amenities, or to Gloucester if you're coming from further away. The surrounding Forest of Dean provides excellent walking, making this a useful base for exploring both the artistic legacy of the area and its natural landscape.
