This small settlement sits in the Forest of Dean area of Gloucestershire, offering a genuinely quiet retreat from busier Cotswolds destinations.
It's really more of a scattered hamlet than a village, with just a handful of properties spread across countryside that feels genuinely remote despite being surprisingly accessible.
The main appeal here is the landscape itself. You're looking at proper woodland walks through the Forest of Dean, with footpaths that take you past streams and through ancient trees. It's the kind of place where you can spend an afternoon wandering without seeing many other people, which many visitors find refreshing after exploring the busier market towns.
Deerhurst Walton doesn't have visitor attractions or shops of its own, so you'll want to base yourself nearby and venture out to explore. The closest larger town is Cinderford, about five miles away, which has the usual amenities and some industrial heritage worth exploring if you're interested in the area's coal mining past. Gloucester is roughly twenty minutes' drive, offering cathedral architecture and riverside walks along the Severn.
This is the place to come if you want to experience the Forest of Dean's quieter side on foot. Pack a map, wear proper shoes, and expect genuine peace and quiet rather than organized activities.
