The Cotswold Line Cycle Route offers a genuinely rewarding way to explore the northern Cotswolds by bike.
Named after the historic railway line that runs through the area, the route frequently shadows the same path as the trains, so you'll often spot them passing by or notice the charming Victorian station buildings dotting the landscape. Most of the ride follows quiet country lanes, with sections of dedicated cycling paths woven through the region's characteristic rolling terrain.
The journey takes you through peaceful countryside with lovely views across gentle hills and open fields. Blockley, the main village along the route, is well worth stopping in to explore its stream, converted mills, and handsome stone cottages. As you cycle through, you'll pass smaller hamlets that make pleasant spots to rest and take in your surroundings. The terrain involves some gentle climbs—it's the Cotswolds, so expect a bit of elevation—but nothing too demanding.
The route works well for either a half-day or full-day outing, depending on how much time you want to spend exploring. Moreton-in-Marsh is just a short ride away and has train connections plus cafes and shops if you need provisions. For a longer day out, Chipping Campden, the historic market town, is also easily accessible from here. Overall, it's a relaxed way to experience the area's distinctive character and landscape.
