The information centre in Gastard serves Corsham, a market town on the southwestern edge of the Cotswolds near the Wiltshire border.

It's a worthwhile first port of call when you arrive in the area, where staff can provide maps and brochures about local attractions and share the kind of practical knowledge that comes from actually living here.

Corsham itself is worth dedicating proper time to explore. The town was built almost entirely from Bath stone, which bathes the high street in warm, golden tones and creates the sense of walking through centuries of architectural history layered together. Corsham Court stands as the centrepiece—a substantial country house containing impressive art collections and grounds that Capability Brown had a hand in designing. The estate has shaped the area's character for generations. Beyond the Court, the town centre rewards a leisurely wander through independent shops, cafes, and restaurants where you can pause for tea or a proper meal.

Because Corsham sits near where the official Cotswolds boundary ends, it maintains a quieter character than villages further north, without the visitor crowds. The atmosphere genuinely feels unhurried here. The location also serves as a good base for wider exploration. Bath lies straightforward to the west, while the village of Lacock sits just north. The staff can help you work out what to prioritise based on your interests and available time.
