If you're heading into Chippenham and need somewhere to leave your car, the Co-op car park offers a straightforward solution.
It's right in the town centre, so you can park and be exploring on foot within minutes. Chippenham itself is a historic market town sitting on the River Avon, and it serves as a solid entry point to the southern Cotswolds.
Once you've parked up, the town centre is yours to explore. You'll find a decent mix of chain shops and independent businesses, but the real attractions are the older buildings scattered throughout. The Yelde Hall stands out as a 15th-century timber-framed structure that's survived in remarkable condition, while St Andrew's Church catches your eye with its striking spire rising above the roofline. The town's history stretches back centuries—it was a royal manor during Saxon times, and you can sense that heritage in the way the streets are laid out and the character of the place. It's a working market town rather than a tourist destination, which means Fridays and Saturdays bring real energy when the markets are operating. That said, it's an excellent base for venturing further afield. Lacock and Castle Combe are both short drives away, and Bath is within easy reach if you fancy a day trip to the city.
