This small hamlet sits within Savernake parish, just a few miles south of Marlborough in Wiltshire.
It's a quiet rural settlement surrounded by countryside, and while it doesn't have attractions of its own, it works well as a base for exploring the wider Savernake area.
The real appeal is your proximity to Savernake Forest, one of England's oldest woodlands, which spreads across much of the eastern half of the parish. The forest is excellent for walking, with well-maintained paths running through ancient oak and beech trees. You can choose anything from short strolls to longer hikes, and the woodland itself carries genuine history, having served as a royal hunting ground for centuries.
Marlborough, the nearest proper town, is just a short drive north and worth visiting in its own right. It's a lively market town with decent pubs, shops, and restaurants. If you're staying in or near Clench Common, you're well-positioned to spend your days exploring the forest and head into Marlborough when you want evening food and entertainment.
The hamlet itself is a working rural place rather than a tourist destination, which is very much the appeal. It's peaceful and accessible, offering genuine contact with the Wiltshire countryside. It's ideal if you want a quiet base while exploring the forest and the region beyond.
