Caudle Green is a small hamlet spread along the River Frome valley in Gloucestershire, positioned between Stroud and the Forest of Dean.
You'll find a handful of cottages here alongside working farmland, and it's the kind of place that gives you a genuine sense of the Cotswolds away from the busier market towns.
What makes Caudle Green particularly interesting is its location within one of the region's most historically significant industrial landscapes. The River Frome and its tributaries powered mills for centuries, and you can still see traces of this heritage in the valley. During the medieval period and beyond, this area was central to the Cotswolds' wool and cloth manufacturing, with mills operating along the waterway for hundreds of years.
The main reason to visit is for walking and exploring the valley itself. The river valley offers pleasant rambling routes with good views across the surrounding countryside, and the old railway line and canal that run through the valley add layers of historical interest. It's an excellent base for understanding how the Cotswolds' industrial past shaped the landscape you see today.
Stroud, about three miles away, is the nearest proper town if you need shops and services. The hamlet itself is very quiet and rural, so you'll get the most out of a visit by exploring it as part of a wider ramble through the Frome valley rather than treating it as a standalone destination.
