This quiet corner of the Vale of White Horse sits about four miles northeast of Faringdon and works well as a peaceful countryside walk or drive.
The parish is spread across several small settlements—Buckland Marsh to the north, Carswell and Barcote to the west, and the newer development of Gainfield to the south—each with its own particular rural Oxfordshire character. With fewer than 600 residents, you'll experience genuine tranquility here rather than tourist traffic, making it ideal if you're after the quieter edges of the Cotswolds region. The area's history is more substantial than its current size might suggest. Buckland only became part of Oxfordshire in 1974, having been part of Berkshire for centuries before that. It's the sort of place where you can wander between settlements, absorb the slow pace of village life, and understand what makes these scattered hamlets part of the broader Cotswolds landscape.
