This small hamlet sits right at the foot of Cleeve Hill, which at 330 metres is the highest point in the entire Cotswolds and Gloucestershire itself.
It's a brilliant base for exploring one of the region's most dramatic landscapes. The hill dominates the area, and from its summit you get extraordinary views westward across Cheltenham and the racecourse, stretching right over the River Severn into Wales, with Winchcombe visible to the north.
The common around the hill is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, managed carefully to protect its special habitats. If you're into walking, the Cotswold Way footpath runs across the top, so it's perfect for anything from a gentle stroll to a more ambitious hike. The terrain is surprisingly varied, with limestone outcrops and grassland that changes with the seasons. On clear days, you really can see for miles.
The hamlet itself is tiny and quiet, which is part of its appeal. You're close enough to Cheltenham for supplies and facilities, but far enough away to feel genuinely rural. Winchcombe is also nearby and worth visiting for its own attractions. Most people come here for the walking and the views rather than as a destination in itself, but that's rather the point. It's where you come when you want to get up high and see what the Cotswolds are really about.
