Just outside the village of Bampton sits a working pottery studio where you can watch the ceramicists at work, creating handmade pieces right before your eyes.
Everything is designed and made on site, ranging from everyday tableware to decorative items that make excellent souvenirs or gifts. The adjacent shop stocks the full range alongside a carefully chosen selection of other gifts and homewares, so there's plenty to explore regardless of your level of interest in pottery.
The restaurant and café is what draws many visitors back, though. It's earned genuine recognition for both lunch and a relaxed coffee, and the food is genuinely worth your time—freshly prepared and well-executed in a bright, welcoming space. On nice days, you can take your meal or drink outside into the gardens, which offer a genuinely peaceful retreat from the day. You could easily spend a couple of hours browsing the studio and shop before settling in for food and a rest.
Bampton itself, just nearby, has become well-known as a filming location for a popular television series. The market town of Witney is only a short drive away if you want to explore further. This works well as a destination in its own right or as a pleasant break while you're discovering the rest of the Cotswolds.
