If you're exploring the quieter corners around Stroud, Arcade Archive in Eastcombe is well worth seeking out.
This place celebrates arcade gaming from its golden age, and it's refreshingly different from the usual museum experience. Rather than being locked behind glass, the machines here are all set up and ready to play, inviting you to get stuck in and experience the games firsthand.
You'll find a substantial collection of classic arcade cabinets spanning the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. It's a brilliant opportunity to revisit games you may not have played in decades, or to show younger visitors where modern gaming actually came from, long before today's consoles took over. The collection functions as a living archive, keeping these machines operational and part of the entertainment landscape rather than relegating them to history.
Eastcombe itself is a small village sitting slightly away from the main tourist routes, but that's part of its appeal. Stroud is nearby with its independent shops and excellent farmers' market, so you can easily combine a visit here with exploring the town. Cirencester with its Roman remains and Gloucester with its historic cathedral are also within easy reach, making this a genuinely interesting addition to a day spent in this corner of the Cotswolds.
