This small village sits in the Lambourn Valley, straddling the border between Oxfordshire and Berkshire in the eastern Cotswolds.

If you're after peace and quiet, this is the kind of place that delivers. There aren't major attractions in the traditional sense, but that's rather the point. The village clusters around a working stream, lined with traditional stone cottages and a church worth stopping by if you appreciate local architecture.

What really defines Upper Lambourn is its deep connection to horse racing. For generations, the surrounding area has been home to stables and training yards, and you'll regularly see racehorses being exercised along the country lanes. If rural life and equestrian heritage interest you, walking through the valley gives you a real sense of how the landscape supports this living tradition.

The area works well as a walking base. Several footpaths lead through rolling farmland and woodland, connecting to nearby villages with decent views across the Berkshire Downs. The Lambourn Valley Walk passes through if you want to explore further afield.

Practically, you're about seven miles from Wantage and roughly fifteen from Swindon. The village has limited accommodation, so most people use it as a day trip or stay in a larger nearby town. It's an ideal spot if you want genuine countryside without the crowds.
