This waterfront pub sits right at the edge of Gloucester's historic Docks, positioned perfectly to watch boats moving through the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal as you eat or drink.
You get a direct view of the canal locks, so there's constant activity to observe throughout the day if you're in the mood for it. Whether you want a full meal or just want to settle in with a drink and watch the world go by on the water, it works well for both.
The Docks area itself deserves more than just a quick pub visit. The Victorian warehouses surrounding the waterfront are genuinely striking structures, remnants of when Gloucester functioned as a serious inland port handling substantial commercial traffic. The National Waterways Museum is nearby if you want to understand more about the canal's role in that history. You can easily spend an afternoon walking the towpath or cycling around the waterfront to get a proper sense of the place.
Being in Gloucester puts you close to the city centre and its other attractions, including Gloucester Cathedral, which is only a short walk away. The Lock Keepers works well as a stop whether you're exploring on foot or by bike, and it's a straightforward, unpretentious spot where you can pick up a genuine feel for the city's industrial and maritime heritage without it feeling like a staged tourist experience.
