Just outside Banbury in the village of Bodicote, you'll find Tess' Brilliant Bakes, a small cafe that's built its following on the simple principle of doing baking properly.
Everything here is made in-house, from the cakes and pastries to the light savoury snacks, and you can taste the care that goes into it. Whether you're stopping for a morning coffee and a fresh pastry or settling in for an afternoon tea, you know what you're getting is genuinely good.
The location is useful if you're moving around this part of the Cotswolds. Bodicote is close enough to Banbury town centre that it works as a natural stop after exploring the market town or seeing the famous Banbury Cross, and it's equally handy as a break point if you're heading further north towards Chipping Norton or Stratford-upon-Avon.
What really sets it apart is the feeling of the place. You're far enough from the main town bustle to have a genuine breather, yet it's still easy to reach. The atmosphere is relaxed without being anything unusual, and the locals clearly know what they're about. It's one of those spots where you can sit without any sense of being hurried along, making it ideal when you need to pause, reset, and have something proper to eat and drink.
