This historic village sits just a couple of miles north of Cheltenham town centre, making it ideal if you want to escape the bustle without going far.
You'll find yourself in a genuinely lived-in community rather than a tourist attraction, which many visitors find refreshing.
Prestbury has genuine Saxon and Norman roots. The parish church of St Mary dates back to Norman times, with some lovely medieval features inside including carved stonework and monuments worth a quiet look. The village itself grew around this religious centre, and you can still trace that medieval layout as you wander the main streets.
The High Street has a good mix of independent shops, cafes, and pubs where locals actually spend their time. There's a real village green where you might catch cricket in summer. For walks, you're perfectly positioned to explore the surrounding countryside, with easy access to footpaths heading toward the Cotswold escarpment.
The village works well as a base for exploring Cheltenham's attractions, or as a stop if you're heading toward Tewkesbury or further into the Cotswolds. Parking is generally straightforward, and the local bus service connects you to Cheltenham if needed. It's the kind of place where you get a genuine sense of how people actually live in the Cotswolds rather than visiting a preserved version of it.
