This tiny hamlet sits in the rolling countryside between Chipping Norton and Woodstock, representing the kind of quiet rural settlement that defines the Cotswolds away from the busier market towns.
Over Worton is essentially a collection of stone cottages and farmland, the sort of place you might pass through on a country walk rather than visit as a destination in itself, but that's precisely its appeal if you're seeking genuine countryside atmosphere.
The hamlet has attracted some local attention in recent years due to connections to the royal family, though it remains refreshingly unpretentious about this. The surrounding landscape offers excellent walking country, with footpaths connecting through farmland and woodland. You'll find yourself among the characteristic dry stone walls and golden stone buildings that make this area distinctive.
For practical purposes, Over Worton works best as part of a broader exploration of the area. Chipping Norton, about five miles away, offers proper shops, restaurants and accommodation. Woodstock, slightly further, provides more substantial tourist facilities and is home to Blenheim Palace if you want a major attraction nearby. The hamlet itself has no facilities, so come prepared with provisions if you're planning a longer visit, but do come if you want to experience the quieter, less developed side of the Cotswolds.
