Highworth is a market town in Wiltshire positioned at the edge of the Cotswolds, around eight miles north of Swindon.

It's a working town rather than a tourist destination, which means you'll experience something closer to how people actually live in the region rather than how it's packaged for visitors.

The town grew up around its market square, where you'll find the High Street with a decent range of independent shops, cafes, and pubs. St Michael's Church dominates the skyline with its distinctive tower and is worth stepping inside if you're interested in medieval architecture—the building reflects centuries of the town's importance as a market centre. The surrounding countryside is genuinely pleasant for walking, with good footpaths spreading out into farmland where you can follow routes along streams and through fields without encountering crowds.

The Old Crown Inn on the High Street is exactly the sort of place where locals gather, and it's a reliable spot for a meal or drink where you might pick up recommendations for exploring the area. Highworth's history is tied to agriculture and trade, and you can still feel that heritage in how the town is laid out and maintained. Swindon lies just south if you need train connections or larger shops, while the villages and countryside immediately around Highworth offer quieter exploration. The town serves well as a base for getting to know the Thames Valley on foot, or as a stopping point if you're passing through between larger Cotswolds attractions.
