This working village in Gloucestershire sits between the Forest of Dean and the River Severn, and you'll find it's changed quite a bit in recent years thanks to Hartpury University and College.

The institution has become central to village life, bringing substantial investment in sports facilities and infrastructure that's transformed the place while it's maintained its rural feel.

St Mary's Church is worth a visit if you want some quiet time — it dates back to medieval times and sits peacefully within the village. The countryside around here is genuinely good for walking and cycling, with forest trails and riverside paths that give you plenty of reasons to get out and explore on foot.

Rugby has a proper connection to Hartpury through the college, which has developed several professional players and works closely with Gloucester Rugby Club. You'll notice the sport matters to people here, and that heritage runs through the community.

Geographically it works well as a stopping point between Gloucester to the south and the Forest of Dean to the north. It's useful if you're exploring the broader region or want a base that focuses on rugby history and contemporary sports. The village has decent amenities and offers a good alternative if you'd rather avoid the more crowded tourist destinations elsewhere in the Cotswolds.
