This small hamlet in Oxfordshire sits quietly between Farmoor and Cumnor village along the B4017 road.

It's easy to pass through without noticing it's there, which is part of its charm if you're looking for somewhere peaceful and undisturbed.

The main attraction is the landscape around you. Farmoor Reservoir runs alongside the hamlet, making it a pleasant place to walk and watch for birds across the water. The Oxford Green Belt Way footpath passes through the area, offering proper countryside walks for those wanting to explore beyond the immediate surroundings. A local hill called Tumbledown Dick overlooks the hamlet and serves as a useful landmark.

Filchampstead itself is residential with no shops or services, so you'll need to head to nearby Cumnor village for anything practical. One interesting detail worth noting: the hamlet was part of Berkshire until 1974, when local boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. This explains why some older maps and references might show it listed differently.

If you're in the Cotswolds looking for a quieter walk with water views and open fields, this stretch between Farmoor and Cumnor makes a good stopping point to break up your day.
