If you're after some peaceful cycling through genuine Cotswolds countryside, the area around Eaton, Wootton, and Bessels Leigh is exactly what you're looking for.
The terrain here is gently rolling rather than demanding, which makes it ideal for a relaxed day out on two wheels without the huffing and puffing.
The roads take you through open farmland dotted with mature trees, passing traditional stone and brick cottages and village churches that reveal layers of local history. You can piece together short loops or link them into longer routes heading further west, depending on how ambitious you're feeling that day. There aren't major attractions clustered here, but that's partly the point. The real draw is the quietness of the country lanes themselves, the quality of the air, and that genuine sense of stepping away from things.
The villages themselves each have their own rhythm and character, and they're connected by roads that feel genuinely rural rather than like you're cycling past anyone's back garden. You're also well positioned to nip across to Oxford if you fancy somewhere proper to eat afterwards, or head south to Abingdon-on-Thames. It's the kind of place where you get to experience the region as it actually is rather than as a tourist destination.
