This small village sits quietly in the valley of the River Dunt, just off the A417 between Gloucester and Cirencester.

With around 265 residents, Daglingworth feels genuinely remote despite being accessible by major road, which makes it a good stop if you're exploring the less-travelled parts of the Cotswolds.

The main reason to visit is the Church of the Holy Rood, which contains remarkable Anglo-Saxon stonework from the 10th and 11th centuries. Inside you'll find an Anglo-Saxon crucifixion tablet dating to 1015, carved with impressive detail for its age. The church also features a canonical sundial on its south wall, worth spotting if you're interested in medieval timekeeping.

These days the village is primarily residential, with most buildings converted to private homes. The village hall serves the community, and there's a working stable and horse riding centre if you fancy exploring the surrounding countryside on horseback. The River Dunt runs through the valley and contributes to the peaceful atmosphere.

It's worth checking ahead that the church will be open when you visit, since it's a small village without other obvious attractions. The location works well if you're plotting a route between Cirencester and Gloucester, or if you're keen on visiting multiple Anglo-Saxon churches across the region.
