Crimscote is a small hamlet in the northern Cotswolds that gives you a genuine sense of what life in this region is actually like.
The settlement spreads loosely across the countryside, with honey-coloured stone buildings dotted among rolling hills and farmland that's been worked for generations. There's no particular recorded history for such a tiny place, but the agricultural heritage is plain to see in the fields around you, and communities like this have evolved gradually over centuries of rural living.
What you'll do here is mostly about taking your time. Country walks along the lanes that wind between the scattered buildings are the main draw, and there's something restorative about moving slowly through a landscape where farming still shapes everything. You won't find major attractions or busy shops, which is exactly the point if you're after a break from the busier tourist centres. It's the everyday reality of the Cotswolds you'll experience here, rather than a curated version.
Since Crimscote itself is very small, you'll find most services and amenities in nearby towns. Stratford-upon-Avon is a short drive away with its theatres, restaurants and shops, and other appealing market towns across the Cotswolds are easily within reach. This makes the hamlet a good base for exploring the wider area while still having somewhere genuinely peaceful to return to.
