Just a short walk from the centre of Cirencester, you'll find a fascinating glimpse into the town's Roman past.

This impressive set of earthworks marks the site of one of Roman Britain's largest amphitheatres. Once, this vast arena buzzed with the sounds of thousands of spectators, gathered to watch gladiatorial contests, public executions, and wild beast hunts. Today, it's a peaceful, open space where you can wander freely and truly get a sense of the scale of Roman Corinium Dobunnorum, which was the second largest city in Roman Britain. Standing within the grassy bowl, it's easy to imagine the crowds that filled these banks nearly two millennia ago. It's a great spot for a historical stroll, offering plenty of space to explore. You can easily reach it on foot from Cirencester town centre, and it's also close to areas like Siddington and Stratton. Combine your visit with exploring Cirencester itself, or take a walk towards Baunton or Ewen afterwards. There's no entrance fee, making it a wonderful, accessible piece of history for everyone to experience.
