This small hamlet spreads out along the River Avon, the same waterway that flows through Stratford-upon-Avon and has quietly shaped this region for centuries.
You won't find much in the way of shops or formal attractions, and that's entirely by design—Chadbury offers genuine rural Cotswolds life without needing to compete for visitors.
The river is really what brings people here. It's an excellent stretch for a quiet walk along the water's edge, where you can watch for kingfishers and the other wildlife that makes this part of the Avon home. If you're curious about the river's past, this is a good place to understand how essential it was to local trade and transport centuries ago. The locks and weirs built to help boats navigate are still standing, and the water remains as striking as it would have appeared in Shakespeare's day.
Chadbury works best as a stopping point during a wider exploration of the Avon valley. You could easily spend time here and then move on to Stratford-upon-Avon upstream, or Evesham further downstream. If you're based in one of the larger Cotswolds towns like Cheltenham or Gloucester, Chadbury makes for a worthwhile countryside detour. Pack a picnic, wear practical shoes, and give yourself permission to simply sit and watch the river doing what it's done for centuries.
