Tockenham is a small village on the north-western edge of the Cotswolds, the sort of place where the interest lies in the lanes and the neighbouring settlements rather than a high street. There is no cluster of shops or attractions here, but within about two miles you'll find eight places to eat and drink, three places to visit and one spot for activities, most of them a short drive or a decent walk away in and around nearby Lyneham. It suits visitors who like a quiet base, a bit of village architecture and a good lunch, and who don't mind covering a little ground between stops.

A few hours here works well if you build them around a meal. Start with a wander to Lyneham Memorial Garden, a calm, well-kept spot that takes only a few minutes but sets the tone, then look in on Lyneham Methodist Church nearby. For food, Zeera Lyneham is the choice if you want a proper sit-down curry, while The Mallard suits a longer pub lunch. If you're putting a picnic together instead, F Drury & Sons is worth the stop on your way through.
