Steventon is the sort of village you come to for an unhurried half-day rather than a checklist. It's a small place with a working, lived-in feel, and most of what you'll want sits within a couple of miles of the centre: fourteen places to eat and drink, five places to stay, six local services, two spots worth visiting, one activities venue and a single shop. That balance tells you something about the area — you'll find more good tables than attractions, so the pleasure here lies in choosing where to sit, then filling the gaps between meals with a walk, a wander or a look at the surrounding countryside.

Start with breakfast or coffee at Farmhouse Bakery & Cafe, or pick up something quick at the Wild Bean Cafe if you're passing through on the road. From there it's worth heading over to the Sutton Courtenay Environmental Centre for an hour or two outdoors, then doubling back via Q Gardens Farm Shop for provisions to take home. Round things off with a proper sit-down lunch or an early evening drink at The Pack Horse, which is the natural place to end up.
